Produttori del Barbaresco’s 2020 Riserva Montestefano comes from the 3.9-hectare MGA Montestefano in the commune of Barbaresco, a south/south-east–facing slope of calcareous limestone that gives the wine its depth and classical structure. Fermentation is carried out at about 30 °C with an extended 28-day maceration and full malolactic conversion, followed by at least 30 months in large 25–50 hl oak casks and a further 9 months in bottle; the 2020 was bottled in May 2024. Montestefano’s warm exposure and high-calcium soils typically yield full-bodied, deeply flavored Nebbiolo with ripe, muscular tannins. The 2020 season itself was “extremely good,” marked by a mild winter, August heat, and slow, even ripening that produced complete, complex wines with medium-to-long aging potential.
